First walk through Luxembourg – 20220129

I snuck out of the hotel here in Germany today! I saw that Luxembourg wasn’t too far and it would only cost me 30 euros to drive all the way to Luxembourg. The ride was nice. Some windy roads all the way there. It only took a little over an hour. I found an underground parking garage and winded my way down deep. Pretty interesting holes they got. For the whole day it ended up costing 17.5 euros for parking.

After parking the car I just started walking where I saw all the people walking. I got a surge of excitement after being in the hotel for the last few days couped up. What I noticed immediately was the rather intense diversity there. Every other person seemed to be a different color of skin and was speaking a different language. The languages I ended up hearing the most were French, German, English, and Spanish. I walked all over town and ran into some nice English girls that took my photo for me in front of an old castle. We ended up swapping information to maybe grab a beer later, but I was planning on leaving quite early before the sun went down. I went off on my own and got up to 20k steps just walking around and taking photos of things.

It’s a nice city. It actually feels really small. And the layers of buildings stacked around the mountainy hill thing at the center is kind of cool. But I can’t really say there’s anything that feels unique about Luxembourg. It really just feels like a medium sized city in Holland or Germany. But the people were quite nice. Not condescending that I couldn’t speak French the way I get in France sometimes.

I met up with the girls a couple hours later and we went to a chocolate milk place. It was pretty good but honestly not really anything special. But we had some pretty good conversations for about 2 hours. They are some young girls that just finished college and they are starting “real” jobs now.

They said they had to go get ready to have some drinks so I hopped in the car and wanted to stop in a little village on the way back to Morbach. It was pretty dark so I couldn’t really see anything but I found a Chinese food place that was pretty decent and ate there. Next time I go out there I will check out another village.

Hahn Germany: Work Trip! – 20220128

Boring day! Just ate breakfast here, went on a run and hung out in my room. I got tons done though and I’m happy to just relax here after all the riding I just did in Mexico. My flight out of here just keeps getting pushed back so I’m going to rent a car tomorrow and drive out to Luxemburg. I’ve never been there before so I can cross another country off the list. YAY.

But none of the pilots here I want to go with and I don’t know anyone else here so my plan is to just go alone. It would be nice to have company, but I’m pretty comfortable traveling alone at this point. I was able to get some guitar in, which I haven’t been able to do in quite a while. I was pretty happy about that.

La Paz to San Jose Del Cabo: Back to Work! – 20220124

Today I woke up at the hostel in la paz to head down to Cabo. The bus cost $17 and was a pretty smooth ride. It took 3.5 hours and it even had a bathroom.

I arrived in Cabo to find that Didi does not work there but Uber does. It cost about $2.50 to go pretty much anywhere in the area so I ubered over to the hostel. “Surf hostel.”

Mexican engineering at the hostel

The host was a nice dude named “crazy Joe.” and I met a couple other travelers there. 2 girls from Washington, a guy who was there for a new tooth, and some other guy from Idaho that didn’t say much.

There’s a few nice restaurants right near the hostel but we headed down to the beach. The Mexican girl I had just met and I jumped in the ocean even though it was pretty damn cold out. The sun wasn’t very high in the sky and the wind was blowing pretty hard. So we left the beach and headed back to the hostel. We headed out for a taco at night just as something to do and I went to bed pretty early. I woke up in the morning and most of us from the hostel went to this breakfast place that was pretty great. “Mundo del sabor.” It was a nice local joint run by a welcoming family. After breakfast it was time for me to head to the airport to fly back to work. ;(
